New Elsevier ScienceDirect Platform Launch
ACM has recently launched the ScienceDirect Platform, migrating most of ACM�s old Elsevier book collection to this new portal while adding hundreds of additional books. ACM Professional and Student members now have access to more than 1,200 online books from Elsevier. The titles, which come from Elsevier's Computer Science "Insights" library, span both current editions and the backlist. Most are published by the venerable Morgan Kaufmann and Syngress imprints. Other notable imprints include Academic Press, Butterworth-Heinemann, Chandos Publishing, Digital Press, Elsevier Science, Newnes, North-Holland, and Woodhead Publishing.
The Elsevier Computer Science collection covers the following topics: Artificial Intelligence, Computational Theory and Mathematics, Computer Graphics and Computer-Aided Design, Computer Networks and Communications, Computer Science Applications, Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, Hardware and Architecture, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Systems Signal Processing, and Software. In addition to full-text books, there are also select open-access journal articles available for ACM members. All books and articles can be downloaded in PDF format and are DRM (digital rights management)-free.
To access ScienceDirect, click on the ScienceDirect link in the top right corner of any ACM Learning Center page and enter your ACM Web Account username and password. Please visit our Elsevier FAQ to learn more about the platform and our Elsevier Books page to access the legacy titles.

This month's featured Skillsoft course is The Basics of Blockchain. In this course, the focus will be on the basics of Blockchain, including Bitcoin keys, units, and transactions, the pros and cons of Bitcoin, and ledgers. Information about cryptocurrency and the underlying technology behind cryptography will be reviewed as well.

ACM Interview: Toufi Saliba

In a recent ACM Podcast Stephen Ibaraki interviewed Toufi Saliba, CEO of PrivacyShell and Chair of the ACM Practitioners Board Conference Committee.
Toufi's background is mainly in Machine Learning, Decentralized Governance, Distributed Computing, and Cryptography. He has authored and co-authored several algorithms, protocols, and patents. Toufi's companies have had several exits for software that he built from the ground up. He sits on multiple Silicon Valley start-up boards, is the founder of the TodaQ Foundation and Chair of the ACM Practitioner Board Conference Committee. Currently, Toufi runs a start-up factory and InfoSec advisory with Todd Gebhart (ex-Co-President of McAfee and Vice-Chairman of Intel Security) and Dann Toliver (ex-NASA scientist and cryptographer). The firm is called PrivacyShell Corp with offices in San Francisco, Palo Alto, and Toronto. PrivacyShell's portfolio founders have an aggregate of over $27B in exits. PrivacyShell academic partners are growing, currently from Cornell, Stanford, Maryland, Technion, University of Toronto, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Berkley and MIT.
