ACM India Council Appoints Aritra Banik as Council Member
ACM India Council has accepted the resignation of Balaraman Ravindran who was elected as Council Member for the period July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2026. The Council appointed Aritra Banik for the period July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026 to complete the term.
Aritra Banik holds a PhD and MTech from the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata and currently serves as an Associate Professor at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar. Prior to this, he held a position as an assistant professor at IIT Jodhpur.
Aritra's research focuses on algorithm design, aiming to develop efficient algorithms for various problems. More specifically, his research interests lie in graph algorithms and parameterized algorithms.
Aritra has been actively engaged in various ACM activities, including organizing multiple ACM summer schools and serving as chair of the ACM summer/winter school committee. Additionally, he participated in the ACM India Teaching Partnership Program, furthering educational initiatives. He also served as the organizing chair for the 2024 ACM Annual Event at NISER.
ACM India Council Appoints Ranga Rajagopal as Chief Operating Officer, Designate
Ranga Rajagopal holds a BE (Hons.) EEE degree from BITS Pilani, an MBA from ICFAI University and Ph. D in Management (Information Systems) from Anna University. Starting his career with HCL Ltd., he soon rose to a senior managerial position. He was then associated with a reputed ISO certified organization handling technology operations for several years. The company of which he has been the Director & CEO specializes in providing IT services and digital transformation solutions besides offering technology skilling programs.
As an active member of ACM, Ranga has been part of the Internal Engagements Committee for several years. He has supported the ACM India council as the Chief of Jury for the Student Chapter Awards for two years. He has also been a member of the jury for the student chapter awards of ACM HQ. On behalf of the ACM Coimbatore chapter, he was part of the organizing committee for ARCS and ACM India Annual event for 2021 and 2022.
Ranga has also been associated with non-profits such as the CSI, as part of the National Executive Committee. He contributed to streamlining the fiscal compliance as Hon. Treasurer and introduced several student centric activities as National Student Coordinator. With his vast experience in the IT industry, he is an invited speaker and industry expert member on the Board of Studies in Computer Science in several institutions. He has published his research work in reputed journals and has also authored a book titled The Fascinating Journey Called Entrepreneurship.
