Registrations Open for Urban Vision, AI for Mobility Hackathon at IISc
April 22, 2025
Dear All,
The AI for Urban Mobility initiative at IISc, supported by the Ministry of Education, Bangalore Traffic Police, AIRAWAT and ACM India, is using AI to ease traffic congestion, improve safety and enhance mobility planning.
The Urban Vision Hackathon is an AI-driven challenge to improve Indian traffic through image annotations and model building. In Phase 1 of the hackathon (May 9 - June 8), college teams will play an online Traffic Quest Game to help create the largest annotated traffic image dataset for India. They will classify various India-specific vehicles under complex Indian road conditions, balancing speed with precision to maximize their scores. In Phase 2 (June 21 - 22) , the top teams in Phase 1 will face-off in-person at IISc to use these annotated images to Train AI Traffic Models.
Registrations are now open to teams of college students across India to participate in the hackathon. Details are here: https://airawat-mobility.github.io/hack/. Multiple teams from the same college are welcome. Deadline is May 9 .
Daily and weekly rewards will be given to leading participants and teams on speed and accuracy, including IISc branded merch, to recognize your efforts! Prizes for the top participants include Internships at IISc on AI and urban mobility research.
India is data rich but information poor. Through this effort, let’s make annotations cool again and curate home grown data for public good. These traffic datasets and models will improve the lives of millions of commuters, enhance traffic safety, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lead to sustainable cities.
Let’s make AI in India. Let’s make AI work for India.
Best regards,
Yogesh Simmhan
