There's Still Time to Plan Your Hour of Code, December 7-13: New Minecraft Tutorial Added
December 1, 2015
With more than 100,000 events already registered, participation in the Hour of Code is expected to double this year. There’s still time to plan your own Hour of Code, and now there’s a new enticement to get students excited about coding: Minecraft! The lessons in this top-requested tutorial teach the basics of computer science, asking students to move Minecraft characters through a block-like world. To keep the lessons accessible to beginners, a simplified system called Blockly is used that involves manipulating icons that tell the players which way to move.
The Hour of Code offers many fun and engaging one-hour tutorials in several languages, including the recently released Star Wars tutorial.
Other ways to get involved:
- Software engineers: volunteer to visit a classroom and spark imaginations
- Teachers: learn more about how to teach an Hour of Code
- Others: host an Hour of Code in your community
