Celebrating ACM's 2019 & 2020 Award Recipients: ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award

The surge of the COVID-19 delta variant, international travel restrictions and restrictions on indoor gatherings forced ACM to cancel its Awards Banquet planned for October 23, 2021.

We continue our series of emails containing videos highlighting the achievements of the 2019 and 2020 Award recipients that were prepared for the Banquet.

The Grace Murray Hopper Award is presented to the outstanding young computer professional of the year, selected on the basis of a single recent major technical or service contribution. The candidate must have been 35 years of age or less at the time the qualifying contribution was made. A prize of $35,000 accompanies the award. Financial support for the Grace Murray Hopper Award is provided by Microsoft.


2019 ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award

The 2019 ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award is presented to Maria Florina "Nina" Balcan for foundational and breakthrough contributions to minimally-supervised learning.

2020 ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award

The 2020 ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award is presented to Shyamnath Gollakota for contributions to the use of wireless signals in creating novel applications, including battery-free communications, health monitoring, gesture recognition, and bio-based wireless sensing.
