What Would an International Framework for Regulating AI Look Like?
October 19 Webinar Will Explore Regulatory Efforts Around Generative and Other Forms of AI
New York, NY, October 10, 2023 – The ACM global Technology Policy Council will host a webinar, “Artificial Intelligence, Real Regulation: International Perspectives and Prospects” on Thursday, October 19 at 12 pm EDT (4 pm UTC).
Recent advances in artificial intelligence have opened exciting new possibilities. At the same time, many experts have called for regulations to protect the public from the potential adverse impacts of these technologies. How do AI regulations of US and European countries differ? How might international frameworks for regulating AI be developed? What are the challenges and opportunities in this area?
Explore the answers to these and other questions as ACM’s global Technology Policy Council hosts a unique dialogue between preeminent technology policy experts in Europe and the US. The webinar is free and open to all, however registration is required.
Panelists:
- Michel Beaudouin-Lafon (moderator) is ACM Technology Policy Council Vice Chair, ACM Fellow, and Professor of Computer Science, Classe Exceptionnelle, at Université Paris-Saclay.
- Dame Wendy Hall is an ACM past president and Presidential Award honoree; Regius Professor of Computer Science, Associate Vice President for International Engagement, and Executive Director of the Web Science Institute at the University of Southampton; member of the Global Commission on Internet Governance; and former Chair of the Ada Lovelace Institute.
- Juha Heikkila is the Principal Adviser for Artificial Intelligence to the Director General of the European Commission Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology.
- Marc Rotenberg is a USTPC member: Executive Director and Founder of the Center for AI and Digital Policy: member of the OECD AI Group of Experts and co-drafter of the OECD AI principles: and adjunct faculty at Georgetown University Law Center.
